What does it cost to build a new home in Tasmania?
We’d rather tell you the floor now than surprise you later: our new homes typically start around $5,000 per square metre in 2026. That’s not the cheapest way to get a roof over your head. It’s the cost of a home that’s resolved properly and built once. The full breakdown — and what pushes costs up or down — is in our guide to the cost to build in Tasmania.
What we won’t do is guess. Our 48-hour feasibility gives you a number within 10% of your real build cost, built from an estimating engine with more than 90 cost categories, labour back-costed from over $20 million of completed Tasmanian homes, and material quantities taken from a 3D model of your home. Still weighing up land or plans? Start with the cost estimator — it costs nothing to know where you stand.
What’s the process for building a new home?
Every new home follows the same Forever Home Process: questionnaire, initial consultation, a Qualifying Budget Estimate before you commit to design, then documentation, an open-book tender and construction. Two quotes from every subcontract trade. Every cost line visible. A target net profit of 10% that we publish.
The order matters. Most new-home stress comes from deciding things too late, or discovering costs too late. Our process front-loads the decisions and the numbers, so construction is the calm part.
Your first home, built like your last
Most people build a handful of homes in a lifetime. We think you should only need one — that’s the whole idea behind our Forever Homes. A new home in Tasmania has to do more than look good on handover day: it has to stay warm, dry and affordable to run through decades of winters. So performance — insulation continuity, airtightness, controlled ventilation — is designed in from the first sketch, not sold as an upgrade later. If you’ve lived in a cold, damp Tasmanian house, read why that happens and how a new build fixes it for good.
